Humber is headed to the 2018 OCAA Men's Soccer Championship gold medal game after defeating Fanshawe 2-1 on Friday afternoon.
It was a chippy match for the full 90 minutes, and after a scoreless opening 45 the Hawks wasted little time in the second half.
Jaineil Hoilett (Brampton, Ont.) took advantage of a Falcons turnover at midfield, flashing the Hawks quick-strike ability in transition. The fourth-year Humber striker received a pass, advanced past a couple of Falcons defenders and tucked a pretty finish just under the bar to give Humber the advantage.
Shortly thereafter the Hawks doubled up, as Nicholas Machado's (Brampton, Ont.) nice finish put them in complete control with just over five minutes remaining.
Fanshawe's Bradley Heath (Markham, Ont.) would get one back for the Falcons in extra time, but it was too little, too late. The Hawks booked their ticket for the title game, as emotions boiled over and words were exchanged after the final whistle.
Humber will now play the winner of Algonquin and Sheridan for the gold medal at 6pm.
Fanshawe's Malek Babouli and Humber's Marc Medeiros were named players of the game.
