DURHAM ADVANCES ON BRZEZINSKI’S FOOT

TORONTO, Ont - The Durham Lords received a pair of goals from Jacklyn Brzezinski and then hung on to defeat the Niagara Knights 2-1.

The Knights had an early scoring chance in the fifth minute, but the shot sailed just over the bar beyond the outstretched arm of Lords' goalkeeper Jenna King.

The miss proved costly as the Lords were able to open the scoring in the 21st minute. Vanessa Juras struck a beautiful corner kick and Brzezinski was able to outleap the Knights' defenders to head the ball into the net.

The lead energized the Lords who controlled the action for the better part of the opening half. Coming out of halftime, Brzezinski struck again in the 46th minute. Brzezinski was able to find the ball in a scramble in tight to the Knights goal and put the Lords up 2-0.

The Knights closed the gap to a single goal in the 82nd minute when Michelle Maecker found the back of the net. The Knights would apply pressure on the Lords, but were unable to net the equalizer before the final whistle sounded.

The win put the Lords into the semi-final tomorrow at 4:00pm against the Fanshawe Falcons. The Knights move on to the consolation side of the bracket where they will face the Algonquin Thunder at 10:00am.

Brzezinski was named Player of the Game for the Lords while goalkeeper Alexis Hebert took the honours for the Knights.
