TORONTO, Ont - The Humber Hawks defeated the Seneca Sting 2-1 (2-1) on penalty kicks to advance to the OCAA Gold Medal match.

The Hawks opened the scoring in the opening minute. A crossing attempt was cleared by the Sting just outside the eighteen yard box. Claudia Piazza beat the Sting defender to the ball, settled the ball and fired a shot to the right side of the net past an outstretched Raven Edwards-Dowdall in the Sting goal.

The Sting responded in the in the 38th minute on a penalty kick. Carley Uddenberg picked up a loose ball and broke in behind the Hawks' defense. A bump from behind resulted in a foul and Ellie Hayes connected on the penalty kick to the bottom right corner. The goal marked the first given up by the Hawks in twelve games this season.

In the 78th minute, the Hawks nearly took the lead. With Edwards-Dowdall out of positioning, the Hawks fired a shot from the top of the eighteen yard box which rang off the left post.

Zoe Longsworth looked to give the Hawks a lead in the 81st minute, but her chip shot from twenty-two yards out narrowly went over the crossbar.

As the whistle sounded to end regulation, both teams collapsed on the field in exhaustion, with still thirty minutes to play.

The Hawks controlled the action in overtime, narrowly missing on a number of chances.

In penalty kicks, Vanessa Fiore starred. The Hawks' goalkeeper stopped four Sting shots with the Hawks hitting the post on two of their three misses.

The win puts the Hawks into the Gold Medal Match tomorrow at 3:00pm against the Fanshawe Falcons. The Sting will play in the Bronze Medal match at 12:00pm tomorrow afternoon.

Fiore was named Player of the Game for the Hawks while Korina Lyte took the honours for the Sting.
