SCARBOROUGH – The Centennial College Athletics & Recreation will play host to the 2018 OCAA Women’s Volleyball Championship presented by Belairdirect.
The three-day tournament will take place at the Centennial College Athletics & Wellness Centre at the Progress Campus from Feb. 22-24. The Final Eight format will feature the top eight women’s teams from around Ontario with the champions advancing to Grande Prairie, Alberta for the CCAA Nationals tournament. As hosts, the Centennial Colts received a bye into the tournament. The final seven teams were determined this past weekend via crossover matches.
The event will begin on Thursday morning with championship awards breakfast banquet at the Delta Toronto East Hotel at 8:30 am. Award winners will be made public shortly after the banquet.
The Colts were guaranteed a place in the final eight but their play of late has them poised to make a run at the championship. The Colts finished second in the OCAA East Division with a record of 15-3, just behind the Loyalist Lancers (16-2). The Colts have won 12 straight matches, including a decisive 3-1 victory over the Lancers on the road to close out the regular season.
Humber, however, is the team to beat. The Hawks have won 10 straight OCAA Championships and have yet to drop a match this season. The Hawks have been the team to beat over that last decade and do not look to be slowing down.
The Colts will begin tournament play in the marquee match Thursday, February 22 at 6 pm on the main court at the AWC. We encourage all staff and students to come out and cheer on the Colts!
Admission is FREE for all Centennial Students and Staff with your myCard. There will be concessions, prizes, giveaways and a Fan Zone on-site throughout the duration of the tournament.
